People pay good money to get away from winter by a vacation to southern California. Especially this February, with all the snow everywhere but here. We had perfect weather for our car show on Sunday, February 13.

This jaded editor was pretty sure he had seen it all, until he saw a 1933 Cadillac Town Sedan and a 1939 Series 61 convertible sedan on the lawn of the country club. The ’33 was displayed by Hoyt Sullivan. After lunch, it was awarded Best of Show. Runners up were Herman Desser with his 1949 Series 62 convertible and Roger Morrison with his 1980 Fleetwood 75. There were also two V-16s on display, one of each engine type. Robert Robin saved face for La Salle by bringing the only one there, a 1935 coupe. A great turnout of prewar cars.

Lunch was good, as usual. Pork loin and chicken breasts. A wise man decided to give a rose to each lady, timely for Valentine’s Day the next day.  Our new director, Dan Fisher, introduced himself at the podium.

Paul Schinnerer shared some recollections about the early days of our region. Jeff Kay presented to the region a collection of photos that his father had taken at our events years ago. They help to fill in some of the many voids in our archive.

Gary Friedman made a video presentation that included a tour of the Gilmore facility near Kalamazoo, where the CLC Museum and Research Center will build a replica dealership one day and fill it with cars and memorabilia. After some funny pictures of early horsepower, he showed us a film of the CTS-V stunt driving team in China.

Afterwards, Mrs. D’Agostino and Tom Musson won the raffle. The money was almost enough to put gasoline in Paul Schinnerer’s V-16 All-Weather Phaeton.
